Olde Mill-Millersville: Preteen dance at Herald Harbor

A preteen dance is scheduled for 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Herald Harbor Volunteer Fire Department at 401 Hall Road in Crownsville.
Youth ages 10 to 13 are welcome to attend. Parents must sign children in and out. Admission is $5. Refreshments will be sold.

Talent show

Southgate Elementary School will host its talent show with student presentations beginning at 7 p.m. Friday.

Park programs

Kinder Farm Park will offer two weekend park programs.

A culinary "Herbs for Food" program will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Participants will meet at the comfort station. Information will be shared on the historical use of cooking herbs and the health benefits associated with them. The program is open to adults. Interested children may attend with a parent or guardian. Advance registration is required.

A two-part outdoor education series will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday and May 24 for students in third- to fifth-grades.

Participants will meet at the main parking lot. Activities will include games, problem-solving skills and teamwork. Advance registration is required; organized groups or individual friends may register to participate. Space is limited.

The park is located at 1001 Kinder Farm Park Road.

Community events

The Village of Old Mill Community Association will present a community yard sale from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The Old Mill Swim Club will sponsor a car wash and food concession fundraiser at Barlow Field located directly behind the 7-11 store on Old Mill Road during the yard sale.

The community is located between Veterans Highway and Oakwood Road.

Volunteer orientation

A volunteer orientation to assist the elderly through Partners In Care, 6 Ritchie Highway, is scheduled for 2 and 5 p.m. May 22. Interested persons may choose either session to attend.

The meeting will provide information about the volunteer opportunities with the group, including drivers, handymen, ride dispatchers, Health Watch installers and boutique workers.

The nonprofit group assists older community members with rides to appointments or local trips such as grocery shopping and light handy work jobs around their homes. Volunteers must attend the orientation to participate. Monetary donations and gently used clothing for the resale boutique will also be accepted.

Art show

The Millersville Elementary School Art Fair will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. tomorrow in the multipurpose room in the school at 1601 Millersville Road.

Historic tours

The Ann Arundel Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will open its chapter house, the Rising Sun Inn at 1090 Generals Highway, for tours from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The inn was built in the mid-1700s and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The tour will include antique furnishings, artifacts and a small collection of money printed in Annapolis during the 18th century. The requested donation is $5. The entire fee benefits the upkeep of the historic building.

Intro to kindergarten

Southgate Elementary School will hold a kindergarten orientation meeting at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the media center of the school at 290 Shetlands Lane.

The meeting will provide information to help parents prepare students for the August enrollment. The program is open to the enrolling child and parents or guardians only.
