Pasadena: Benefit scheduled Saturday for young burn victim

What started out as a fun-filled day on May 3 for Joe and Stacy Golden and their three children turned into a horrible experience.
While camping at Jellystone campground in Hagerstown, their 3-year-old son, Aaron, fell into the smoldering coals from a campfire and received second- and third-degree burns on his left arm, hand and ankle as well as his right arm. Aaron was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors quickly discovered that he needed to be transported to John Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore, where he underwent his first surgery to remove the debris from the accident.

He was hospitalized for the next three days and underwent bandage changes, occupational therapist visits, psychiatrist visits as well as burn surgery. Nine days after the incident, Aaron and his parents met with a plastic surgeon, who told them the child would need another surgery for skin grafts. Aaron is now recovering but the hospital bills are piling up.

Family friends John Shetrone and Colleen Dove along with the Anne Arundel County Professional Firefighters Burn Foundation will hold a fundraiser at 1 p.m. Saturday to help with the costs that the insurance did not cover. The benefit will be held at 341 Eagle Hill Road.

There will be food, snowballs, a moon bounce, water slide, fishing, horseshoes, volleyball, water trampoline, an auction, paddle boats, money wheels, and 50/50 raffles.

All proceeds will go to the Aaron Golden fund, which will be turned over to the Anne Arundel County Professional Burn Foundation after Aaron's medical bills have been covered.

"We were touched by the fact that the foundation is totally nonprofit with no paid employees and helps many citizens of this county with emotional, physical and financial help after they or one of their family members have suffered a serious burn," Ms. Golden said. "Our wish is that we will be able to help others and foremost to send other children to burn camps with the extra revenue."
